TOEFL Preparation
TOEFL is a quite simple exam, but sometimes it’s very confusing. If you are not familiar with its structure, even your good knowledge of English cannot help you to pass it perfectly, so you need a good TOEFL preparation: work out the answers to test questions, repeat the tasks that you do not recognize. The best way to do this is to use special textbooks and disks which help you to prepare to the exam.
They include not only test versions, but also a lot of grammar reviews and exercises to develop the skills which are required during TOEFL, as well as the test execution strategy that will help you to pass the exam successfully. Disks can be designed to prepare for the TOEFL PBT (Paper-based Test) and iBT (Internet-based Test) on the sections as Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.
During the TOEFL preparation try to perform the task, simulating the real exam. For example, during the execution of the Listening Comprehension use headphones. In each part you should watch out for the remaining time and the number of completed questions. Before you go to the real exam, study the types of the questions and explanations for each part of the test, which are used in the exam. Carefully read the each question.
Calculate how much time you can spend on each question and correctly calculate the total time. Note the number of the questions and the time allotted to the beginning of each section. Don’t spend much time on one question. Remember that in the part of Listening Comprehension time to answer each question is limited. Try to answer all questions, it will allow you to gain the maximum number of points.
Listening Comprehension
Try to respond quickly, as you don’t forget any important points. After listening to the question, try to answer it without looking at the answer choices. Then check out the options and select one that suits more than the others.
Structure and Written Expression
If you don’t know the answer to the question, exclude from the variants an obviously wrong one, and select from the remaining options the answer that feels right to you.
Reading Comprehension
Before you answer the question, read each passage. You can go back and change your answer, so you can skip questions to return to them later.
Properly allocate your time: it’s better to answer all the questions which are regarding to one passage, and only then proceed to the next. If you do not know the answer to the question, exclude from the options obviously wrong variant and choose among the remaining answers.
Your results in this section depends on the number of the correct answers.
Test of Written English
Familiarize yourself with the list of the topics that can be offered to you on the exam. When you're on the real exam, you will not be able to select a theme.
